Barossa Fine Foods Pate

Over weekends, especially hot ones platters are an absolute must. To elevate those platters, pate can be very helpful. Most I’ve found though contain either gluten or have a may contain statement. Which is not the case for the Barossa Fine Foods Pate trio available at Costco. You’ll get three different styles of Pate; a duck, truffle and french. These are Australian made and owned. You can find the 100% gluten free label in the top right-hand corner. To get them out of the plastic cleanly, I recommend putting them in the freezer until firm. This allows you to pop the pate out without too many issues. Of course, let this defrost before serving.

top to bottom – french, truffle, duck

Starting with the French which is the most popular amongst my friends. For major allergens it contains dairy. Other ingredients include pork, brandy, yeast extract, and flavour enhancer. It has a smooth creamy consistency with a rich flavour. You get a nice balance from the dried vegetables and sugar. It’s quite rich and works perfectly with a aged cheddar. The truffle is my favourite though. It also contains dairy. Other ingredients include a blend of pork and chicken, mushrooms, brandy, truffle paste, tapioca, maize, and monosodium glutamate. This has that lovely earthy truffle flavour. It’s not too potent, just balances out the richness of the meats and liver well. Again it is very creamy. However, the truffle wasn’t well received amongst my friends. Which meant that was all for me.

The least touched by our table was the duck terrine. It includes tree nuts for major allergens and may contain traces of dairy. Other ingredients include duck, pork, port, maize, tapioca, and flavour enhancer. I think the chunks of pistachio were a little jarring for me. I really like my pate to be smooth. Furthermore, It’s also the richest of the three. Therefore, small amounts with something fresh like a walnut and fig roulade are a must. Overall, we did finish it, but it wasn’t with the gusto of the others.

For times when I want to truly indulge or have a fancy platter with my friends these are great to know about. I don’t know if they are available anywhere other than Costco. For those in the delivery range, you can get individual portions online. Otherwise, they have a stockist list as well.
