Gelativo – Gelato Cookies

Excitement was rampant when the Gelativo Gelato Cookies turned up in the freezer aisle of Woolworths. You can apparently pick these up from IGA as well. I have only spotted three varieties, however according to the packaging there are four flavours. The three flavours that have been found include Roasted Hazelnut, Salted Caramel and Belgium Chocolate Fudge. The last elusive flavour is an espresso ripple. I’m not sure if it is an exclusive to a certain store but as soon as I know more I’ll let you know. The pack of four gelato cookies will set you back $8.50.

Roasted Hazelnut with Dark Chocolate Ripple

The Roasted Hazelnut with Dark Chocolate ripple comes in blue packaging. You can find the gluten free label at the bottom on the front of the box or on the side. They are also labelled that they are made with fresh milk, cream and hazelnuts. Furthermore they are made in Australia. For major allergens these contain milk, egg, soy and hazelnuts. There is no labelled may contain. Other ingredients if you need to know them include maize glucose syrup, guar um, carrageenan, maize starch, tapioca starch, rice and besan flour and coconut.

This was the first flavour I was able to try. Starting with the cookie it is soft and chewy. It has a nice flavour with chocolate chips throughout. The ratio to ice cream and cookie is wonderful. The Ice cream has that lovely Nutella flavour which is where both the roasted hazelnuts and chocolate come in. I definitely want to have this one again and again.

Belgian Chocolate with Fudge Ripple

The Belgian chocolate is in purple packaging and again you can find the gluten free label at the bottom of the front or on the side of the pack. These are made with fresh milk and cream and made in Australia. The major allergens include milk, egg and soy. There again is no labelled may contain. Other ingredients if you need them include tapioca, maize, carrageena, rice and besan flour and coconut.

Gelato Cookies

The Belgian Chocolate with fudge ripple which is a chocolate on chocolate overload. Don’t get me wrong though that is delicious. The cookie is the same as the others soft and chewy with a nice flavour. The ice cream filling ratio is great again. The ice cream as mentioned above is chocolate with a gooey fudge ripple through it. If you are a chocolate fan then this if for you. It has it’s place for when you are craving chocolate but personally the Hazelnut is my preference out of these two.

Madagascan Vanilla Bean with Salted Caramel Ripple

Finally the vanilla bean salted caramel is in the brown packaging. Again this is labelled gluten free, made with fresh milk and cream and made in Australia. For major allergens, these contain milk, egg and soy. There again is no may contain statement. For other ingredients these contain, maize, guar gum, carrageenan, tapioca, rice and besan flour and coconut.

Finally, the non chocolate flavour, the vanilla with salted caramel. This is another cookie with well developed flavour. The cookie is the same again, with the soft and chewy texture. The vanilla bean is a nice strong flavour and blends well with the sticky caramel ripple. I didn’t get a lot of salted caramel, but it’s still lovely and sweet. Definitely another favourite for me.

At $8.50 for the pack of four, each ice cream sandwich comes in at $2.13 which is really reasonable. These are a really exciting product and I can’t wait to see if a larger range will be introduced.
