On our first day in Western Australia we stopped off for dinner at Kapitol Kitchen in Wanneroo. This 100% gluten free restaurant serves up modern cuisine that everyone can enjoy. Especially since their food is also refined sugar free. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner you can find them at 943 Wanneroo Road in Wanneroo Western Australia.

I definitely recommend making a booking if you are attending on a Thursday night. While there is plenty of seating both upstairs and down, Kapitol Kitchen seems to be extremely popular. People filed in after us, bringing in a joyful atmosphere. Even though we’d already eaten quite a bit at our previous stops, we couldn’t go past a starter. With a few options to choose from we went simple; classic bruschetta ($14).

Kapitol Kitchen

A really light way to start the meal, the crusty bread has a great texture with a nice flavour. It’s topped with a blend of tomato and onion which adds a burst of freshness. It’s all enhanced with a crumbling of creamy salty feta. If you like that extra zingy flavour, you can mop up the balsamic drizzle on the plate. At $14 it is a pricey starter but if it’s for a special occasion or date night, why not splurge a little?

Chicken Vodka Tagliatelle

Kapitol Kitchen was the last venue in my readers choose what I eat for a day polls. The winning dish, their chicken vodka tagliatelle ($28). I am extremely happy that this dish won out. I had been hoping to try it the most. Apparently, the tagliatelle used comes from The Gluten Free Lab, whose products I picked up to review. So keep your eyes open for that coming soon. The pasta had a lovely al dente texture which held up nicely to the creamy vodka sauce. The Vodka does cook off so you don’t get any overwhelming alcohol flavour, just some nice undertones.

I love the combination of pine nuts, spinach and sun dried tomatoes which is incorporated in this dish. Therefore, it’s not hard to tell that I love it. However, I will admit the best part is being able to slurp the pasta. There is a good quantity of chicken which is tender. The flavours are lovely. I’d easily and happily pick this up again.

On Thursday nights at Kapitol Kitchen it is Parma night. Which made Brody really happy as he is what I like to call a Parma Connoisseur. The deal which will set you back $15 if you buy a drink; includes a gluten free parma of course, chips and salad. The parma is a decent size too. With free ranged chicken breast, topped with mozzarella. As an expert in Parmagiana, Brody thought this wasn’t too bad. Although, the base was a little soggy – we had seen it sitting on the warming shelf at the kitchen for a little while. It has a good chicken to sauce to cheese ratio, Brody did miss the ham that you get on the Parmas here in Melbourne. You’ll get a good portion chips and salad too. All in all, it’s well worth your $15.

Of course, we can’t do a review without getting dessert. There are a handful of options to choose from at Kapitol Kitchen, puddings, cheesecake, crumbles but we knew instantly we wanted the Churros ($16). Enjoy them with a homemade nutella sauce as well. These are a nice churro with good flavour, a decent helping of cinnamon sugar and airy texture. While they are nice, Brody thinks that the Churros from the Free-Range Chef were nicer in texture. However, he’d eat these again. If you aren’t a fan of the desserts on their menu, you can also check out their raw desserts cabinet for more treats.

That’s the lot for Kapitol Kitchen. If you’re looking for more gluten free options in Western Australia, make sure you head to my Western Australia review page. There you can follow along with my Western Australia trip;.
