Woolworths Cook Range

Woolworths have been slipping gluten free products into their normal Cook Range by testing the product but not labeling it gluten free on the front. On at least three of their meat cook products, in the nutritional panel you’ll find gluten nil detected and on some gluten free above the nutritional panel. The three that I have to review include the peppered beef steaks, brown sugar and paprika pork belly, and lamb souvlaki style. Furthermore, there are many that are gluten free by ingredient as well. You can find them in the chilled meat area and prices will vary. They are all made in Australia too, which is great for those who love Australian products.

Cook Range Gluten Free Testing

Starting with the two pack of beef pepper steaks. You won’t find any major allergens or may contain on the packet. Ingredients include pepper, paprika, chilli, onion, garlic, yeast extract, citric acid, and parsley. They can be ready in ten minutes in a pan or fourteen on a bbq. These have a nicely flavoured crust with a bit of peppery spice. The steaks are great size and pair well with vegetables and mash potato.

Now onto the brown sugar and paprika pork belly. These contain milk for major allergens. Other ingredients include smoked paprika, brown sugar, rice flour, garlic, onion, Worcestershire sauce, and xanthan gum. These are delicious. Although, they are a little too sweet for us. In addition, the smokey paprika adds a nice depth of flavour. They have no spice to them. Serving them up you can pair it with salads and vegetables.

Gluten Free Pork Belly Cook Range

The lamb souvlaki strips also contain no major allergens. Furthermore, other ingredients include onion, garlic, lemon peels, fruit oils, yeast extract, and paprika oleoresins. These have a light flavour that does remind me of the Hela Good souvlaki. You can pair this with many different sides, we opted for the full souvlaki. With some garlic dip, onion, lettuce and tomato. Above all, It’s refreshing and works nicely. I will happily grab this again for souvlakis for Brody and me.

That’s just three of the cook range from Woolworths. Hopefully, this is the start of more of the range getting tested. Although as I mentioned before there are a range that are plenty that are gluten free by ingredient as well. Furthermore, you can read about more of the gluten free tested meat options in my chilled review page.

  1. The Cook brand peppered beef steak I bought from Woolworths was really chewy, in the matter of fact, more than one third of the steak was impossible to chew and I had to spit it out. The worst quality meat I ever had.
